2011-08-06 Sylvan Dale Ranch's grass-fed cattle battle rising feed costs

“In 2000, the cost of beef cattle feed with a 32 percent to 36 percent protein composition cost $261 per ton, according to United States Department of Agriculture statistics. Costs then rose to $316 per ton in 2005, and up again to $488 per ton in 2009.”

“Larimer County land agent Charlie Johnson said since 1998 the Sylvan Dale Ranch has placed 1,620 acres with $1.9 million in value under conservation easement with Larimer County.‘They have donated a tremendous amount to our program, more than anyone, I believe, in our entire history,’ he said.”

Grant rode a horse named "Big Daddy" and Drake rode a horse named "Jewel." She also said they had a heart-to-heart chat down by the river.”
