December 2010 Archives

We love nature and our beautiful valley teeming with wildlife. As the upcoming Christmas holiday draws closer it’s easy to find ourselves dashing and scurrying about tending to the various activities of this time of year, but we’re not alone!

squirrelSylvan Dale’s resident naturalist David Armstrong has been featured in an article published today on ReporterHerald.com that shares some interesting facts about our neighborly squirrels who are also busy about their own seasonal routine.

Take a moment to read the article, “‘Squirrelly’ for a reason, during this season” and perhaps learn a bit more about these popular and delightful little creatures.

bighornFor those interested, there’s a band of Bighorn sheep in the lower pasture!” David Jessup called out over the ranch radio at about 9:30 this morning.

A group of us jumped at the news and headed out. Clear skies and the bright, warm rays of the sun made for a golden opportunity to view the band of bighorn.

The temperature was very comfortable, in the low 50’s and we were pleasantly rewarded with a good look at these majestic sheep.

Fortunately they weren’t too alarmed by our approaching which permitted us to get close enough to capture several good shots — we hope you enjoy them!

Although the overcast weather may have clouded the view of the total lunar eclipse last Tuesday, the skies were clear and blue for Christmas.

In typical, unpredictable Colorado style, Christmas at Sylvan Dale arrived accompanied by weather more like cozy spring than chilly winter!

With temperatures reaching the low 50’s the lawn chair and BBQ could easily have been brought back into service! We truly hope you took some time to enjoy the gorgeous day with family and friends, and had a perfect day, Christmas in the Spring!

The forecast for the first part of this week is a calm and mellow mid 40’s, ideal weather to explore the local lakes and trails, so get out and enjoy your backyard paradise.

OH SNAP! Dreams do come true

Sylvan Dale finally gets a real dose of snow today and it looks as though the white stuff will stay around for a while with colder temperatures expected.

The ranch takes on an especially romantic atmosphere when the white snow blankets the turf, tracing the tree branches with a silvery sheen.

Although it was still overcast, we captured a couple shots of the property this morning and will try to get out to grab some more as the day progresses.

Hopefully the late day will provide better lighting of the gorgeous landscape. Check back later today to see them!
