Ready for refreshing white water adventure? Ready for refreshing white water adventure?

White water rafting is offered to our summer dude ranch guests through our partner whitewater services provider. You will experience your white water adventure on the Lower Cache la Poudre River, Colorado's only National Wild & Scenic River. Your rafting trip will take you approximately 4.5 miles down river, over primarily Class II and Class III rapids (water flows vary, but the trip is considered intermediate to advanced intermediate in difficulty). The white water rafting bus will pick you up from Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch around 10:45 am. You take a sack lunch and a cooler of snacks and will be back for dinner by 6:00 pm, the perfect complement to your exhilarating white water adventure!

White water rafting is offered only for our Dude Ranch Vacation Guests.

Typical minimum age is 7 years but the minimum age varies based upon current (no pun intended) water conditions Generally high water occurs through June which will raise minimum age to 13. Please inquire about the minimum age requirement when booking your rafting trip.

Things To Bring:

  • Swimsuit
  • Towels
  • Sunglasses (with a strap)
  • Sun protectant
  • Water shoes (or old tennis shoes)
  • Quick dry clothing (polypropylene, fleece or nylon)
  • Your sense of adventure!

Cotton t-shirts are best left in the bus, as they just get soaked. You might want to bring a change of clothes so you won’t have to ride back wet … and YOU WILL GET WET!

Please leave your jeans, boots, jewelry or other valuables in a safe place—not on the raft!

Wet Suit Rental:

Wet suits can be rented from the rafting company. They usually have enough to outfit everyone participating on the river that day. However, on warm summer days whatever you’re wearing and your lifejacket is usually just fine.

Rafting charges will be added to your ranch bill. Any extra charges incurred such as photos (shot during the rapids!), store items and wet suits are paid directly to the rafting company. Credit cards, cash or checks are best carried in a waterproof container but you can choose to leave your belongings on the bus with some “security”; a driver will remain on the bus during your rafting adventure.

Reservations and Cancellations:

Rafting space is limited and based on a first-come, first-served basis so please sign up as early as possible after securing your reservations at the ranch. Due to the high demand for white water rafting on the Poudre, the rafting company will not automatically hold space for us after May 15.

The following is the The Rafting Company's policy on cancellations:

  1. Rafting reservations canceled after May 15 are charged a 15% cancellation fee. If you choose to reserve space after this date you will automatically be charged at least $11.25 per person whether you go on the trip or not.
  2. Cancellations made less than 10 days prior to your scheduled trip are nonrefundable.
  3. Assumption of Risk Form. All rafters are required to sign a release form provided by and for the rafting company, anyone under the age of 18 must have a guardian present to sign for them.
