Our steers are born and raised right here on our 3200-acre ranch.  They roam free on mountain grassland under the humane care of our Herd Manager until they are ready for processing after 18 to 21 months.  The term “Natural Beef” means you can be sure your meat is absolutely free of steroids and hormones.  Our beef is processed in a USDA-inspected facility.

Advantages of Locally-Purchased Natural Beef

  • Locally Raised.  No Shipping, which adds to your cost and spews carbon into the atmosphere.
  • Healthy Animals.  No steroids, hormones or antibiotics.  Always buy your beef from a trusted local source instead of taking a chance on “mystery meat” or “downer cows” subject to recall.  Our beef is processed in a clean, USDA-inspected facility.
  • Grass-Fed.  Raised in mountain grasslands on our 3200-acre ranch, our cattle are given small amounts of grain only in the last three months prior to processing.
  • Humanely Treated.  Animal welfare is vital to our program.  Our cattle roam free instead of being crammed into feedlots that breed stress and disease.  Low-stress techniques are used, and our cattle are confined only for brief periods for weaning, vaccinating, and harsh weather. 
  • Lower Cost.  Direct purchase from the rancher cuts out the middle man, meaning less cost to you for equivalent products in the super market.

A non-refundable deposit of $100 must be made at the time of your order.  The balance is due to Sylvan Dale before you pick up your packaged beef.  You are responsible for picking up your order at the processing plant. 

 

If you need special cuts, or would prefer stew meat and less ground beef, or would like to keep bones and organs, please include these instructions when you place your order.

*Our price is based on “hanging weight,” which is the weight of a side of beef after it is slaughtered and hanging in the curing room, before it is cut up and packaged.  A half-side of beef weighs an average of 350 pounds, so you will pay around $956 for your half-steer.  Processing cost is 52 cents per pound hanging weight, plus a $15 processing fee, or around $197.  This brings your total to approximately $1,153.  You end up with around 220 pounds of packaged, ready-to-eat meat, or about $5.24 per pound packagedA real bargain, compared to what you would have to pay for natural beef in a grocery store.
